In the 60 years since the founding of New China, China's energy supply capacity has developed from weak to strong, and the country has become the world’s largest energy producer. This is according to Zhang Guobao, deputy chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and director of the National Energy Administration speaking at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on the morning of September 25.

When I grew up, conservation was on everyone’s mind, to the extent that I was given an OCD-like tic about turning off the lights when I leave a room. Most blue-collar dads of “back in the day” would be horrified to discover how much waste there is in the world, and how much money could be saved by curbing it. From the article:

It said the two businesses had between them cut carbon emissions by 28,000 tonnes - the equivalent of the annual emissions of 5,000 households - and saved £2.7m a year.
