In
the 60 years since the founding of New China, China's energy supply
capacity has developed from weak to strong, and the country has become
the world’s largest energy producer. This is according to Zhang Guobao,
deputy chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission
(NDRC) and director of the National Energy Administration speaking at a
press conference held by the State Council Information Office on the
morning of September 25.
Zhang said that in terms of energy
supply, China has become the world's largest energy producer
maintaining an energy self-sufficiency rate of over 90 percent, and
safeguarding national energy security.

Tamiflu
Dosing Confuses Doctors
A new article in the New England Journal of Medicine details
the problems two doctors had in administering common medicine to
their children. Kara Jacobson (a health literacy researcher at Emory
University) and her husband (a doctor operating from Atlanta Georgia)
were horrified at contradictory Tamiflu
instructions. Warnings on the box state taking over 12 milligrams
could be dangerous, but the parents found over 45 milligrams in the
instructed dosage of “three-fourths a tablespoon.” Since Tamiflu
is commonly suggested by doctors on curing Swine Flu, these parents
are trying to stem a tide of overdosing. Click below for more

Disappearing
Species in Mekong
Last year 163 new species were discovered in the Southeast Asian
Mekong region. Unfortunately, all of these species are becoming
extinct by the day. Global warming is to blame stated the World
Wildlife Foundation in its report released this Friday.
The WWF timed the release a week ahead of the UN Summit on climate
change coming to Bangkok. Click below for more information:

Grizzlies Re-Endangered
U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy ruled that the North
American Grizzly Bear be returned to “Threatened” status under
the Endangered Species Act. Grizzly bears were removed from the list
in 2007 due to an increase in population. The court ruled, however,
that there is not enough Whitebark Pine (the Grizzly's primary food
source) to sustain the population. The 46 page ruling cited that
climate change is to blame. Judge Donald Molloy also ruled that
Yellowstone Fish and Wildlife Officer procedures are inadequate in
protecting the great bear. For more information, click the link
