New Severe form of H1N1

The World Health Organization has found a severe strain of the H1N1 virus. This new strain directly attacks the lungs, increasing the chances of fatalities. Countries in the Southern Hemisphere are particularly affected. 15% of patients in tropical countries submitted with H1N1 have this new strain, requiring more intense treatment and overburdening healthcare institutions. Treatment requires specialization in respiration. Liberal estimates state that one third of the population could be infected. Because it directly attacks the lungs, Asthmatics are most susceptible to the new strain. It is also common in otherwise young and healthy adults, separating it from seasonal flus.
